The future of work in teenagers facing artificial intelligence: preparation, educational challenges and impact on job creation.

Abstract

El rápido aumento en el uso y la evolución de la inteligencia artificial está transformando radicalmente el mercado laboral, lo que genera preocupaciones sobre cómo los adolescentes están siendo preparados para este entorno y cómo enfrentarán estos cambios. Este estudio cualitativo exploratorio analizó literatura académica y científica (2017-2025) para examinar las percepciones de los jóvenes, sus desafíos y el impacto de la IA en sus habilidades ante su inminente integración.

Algunos de los resultados analizados muestran que la IA no está eliminando empleos de manera masiva a un ritmo alarmante, sino que está transformando tareas y creando nuevos roles. Aunque la automatización de tareas genera puestos enfocados en la colaboración humano-máquina, se identificó una brecha significativa de habilidades y un desajuste entre la formación actual y las demandas de un mercado en constante evolución. El desempleo juvenil en áreas tecnológicas puede atribuirse a conocimientos desactualizados y, más importante aún, a la falta de habilidades interpersonales, según sugieren los datos. La información indica que las principales barreras para el empleo no son técnicas, sino que provienen de deficiencias en liderazgo, comunicación y trabajo en equipo.

Se recomienda que el sistema educativo experimente una transformación urgente para adoptar un enfoque adaptativo e interdisciplinario ante la evolución constante de la tecnología, particularmente la IA, manteniendo a la vez una enseñanza ética y humanista. Esta transformación implica capacitar a los docentes para integrar la IA de manera práctica y ética, fomentar el aprendizaje de IA desde una perspectiva técnica y humanística, y priorizar competencias exclusivamente humanas como la creatividad, la ética y la empatía, fundamentales para preparar a la próxima generación y convertir el progreso tecnológico en una oportunidad.

ABSTRACT

The rapid increase in the use and evolution of artificial intelligence is radically transforming the labor market, which raises concerns about how adolescents are prepared for this environment and how to cope with it. This exploratory qualitative study analyzed academic and scientific literature (2017-2025) to examine young people's perceptions, challenges, and the impact of AI on their skills in the face of its imminent integration.

Some of the results analyzed show that AI is not eliminating jobs en masse at an alarming rate but rather transforming tasks and creating new roles. While automating tasks also generate positions focused on human-machine collaboration, a significant skills gap and a mismatch between current training and the demands of the constantly evolving market were identified. Youth unemployment in technology fields can be attributed to outdated knowledge and, more importantly, a lack of interpersonal skills, as the data suggests. Data indicates that the main barriers to employment are not technical, but rather stem from deficiencies in leadership, communication, and teamwork.

It is recommended that the education system undergo an urgent transformation to adopt an adaptive and interdisciplinary approach to the constant evolution of technology, particularly AI, while maintaining ethical and humanistic teaching. This transformation involves training teachers to integrate AI practically and ethically, fostering AI learning from both a technical and humanistic perspective, and prioritizing uniquely human competencies such as creativity, ethics, and empathy, which are fundamental to preparing the next generation and turning technological progress into an opportunity.
